b. Based on site it is classified into three types:

  1. Papillary: when it involves  interdental papilla only the then it is called as papillary
  2. Marginal: when it involves marginal gingiva then it is called marginal.
  3. Diffuse: when it involves all the three parts i.e. interdental papilla, marginal gingiva, and attached gingiva then it is called as diffuse.

What is the etiology of gingivitis?

People develop gingivitis due to the accumulation of plaque that forms on the teeth from not brushing and flossing.The main causative factors of gingival are :

Dental plague: It is a biofilm that surrounds the tooth and contains bacteria. It surrounds the soft tissue and causes constant irritation leading to inflammation of the tissue

Other contributing factors: Calculus which is the mineralization of dental plaque calculus which further leads to dental plaque accumulation.

  1. Bleeding on probing:

The normal gingival is coral pink in color but in chronic inflammation, the color changes into red which is due to vascular proliferation and reduction of keratinization whereas a bluish red color is seen in venous stasis.
